For Cyclists
What Else Can I Do?
Sign up - We want you to sign up on our "No More Doors" page, asking motorists to look for you. With this page, we hope to put a human face on both sides of the door, and to encourage both cyclists and motorists to be careful in the "door zone."
Tell your friends –You may be surprised how many of your friends and relatives have never considered the danger doors pose to cyclists, even though they know and care about one. Ask your motorist and cyclist friends to sign up on our "No More Doors" page.
Stickers - We have sticker designs that you can download and print for distribution in your city (we’ve got Chicago covered, but we need help everywhere else). They are designed to go in street parking areas to remind motorists to check for cyclists. Our goal at anti-dooring.org is to raise awareness, not annoyance. So we ask that you NOT put these stickers on any private property that doesn’t belong to you, or cover up any important signage that others need (such as rates on parking meters).
Laws - Recently Chicago passed a new Bicycle Safety Ordinance which (among other things) imposes a $500 fine on motorists who open their doors into cyclists. We encourage you to look into the law in your area, and contact your local elected representatives to encourage the passage of similar laws in your area if they are not in place already. However, Clint’s death occurred after the passage of this law, so clearly legal penalties alone are not enough. Thus we also encourage you to also participate in activities raising awareness about dooring and cyclists in your area.
E-mail list - Finally, if you’d like to contribute to anti-dooring.org to defray sticker and postage costs, or be kept up to date on our efforts (we promise not to spam you, give your e-mail address to anyone else, or do anything else irritating with it) send mail to info@anti-dooring.org with the subject "put me on your e-mail list." We will keep you up to date on any efforts to raise money or other actions we’re taking.
